Saplings are a group of blocks which behave similar. They are dropped by leaf-type blocks with a chance of 1 in 20 for each leaf block. The sapling drop “replaces” the leaf block drop—you do not get the leaf block if you get a sapling.

All saplings can be can be placed on any block and can either be placed on the surface or underground.

A sapling on dirt or a grass block will grow into a tree after some time.

Types

Currently, there are four kinds of saplings: Saplings, Jungle Saplings, Pine Saplings and Acacia Saplings. Here is an overview of the 4 sapling types:
