Water is a renewable liquid block that can only placed by player by using a bucket (or as a source block in creative mode).
Water is the main block that oceans are made of, water also appears in caves sometimes.
Players can swim in water which can be used for building elevators. Mobs and players can drown in it; it has a drowning damage of . If water hits a lava source, the lava becomes obsidian, water near flowing lava creates stone.
Water can flow in a distance of up to 8 blocks. River water is a very similar liquid, the main difference is that river water can only flow up to 2 blocks.
