Papyrus (sometimes called Sugar Cane, Reeds or Bamboo) is found near water on grass blocks or dirt. It is relatively hard to find and can be crafted into paper. When a papyrus block is mined, all connected papyrus blocks directly above it are automatically mined as well.

Papyrus can be placed anywhere but will not grow everywhere.

A papyrus on dirt or a grass block which is not further away from water than three node lengths slowly grows three additional papyri (blocks) above it.
